Hana-Raviti Maipi-Clark is only 21 years old and is New Zealand’s youngest MP in 170 years. She has become the youngest MP in Aotearoa since 1853. She defeated Nania Mahuta, the country’s longest serving woman MP, to secure her seat in Parliament. She had represented the Hauraki-Waikato seat since 2008. Hana comes from the Maori community and has been raising her voice for the rights of New Zealand’s indigenous communities even before becoming an MP. Her grandfather Taitimu Maipi is a member of the Maori activist group Nga Tamatoa.
