The aim of Gruha Jyothi scheme of Telangana government is to provide 200 units of free electricity to all the households in Telangana state. This scheme has been announced by Congress government in Telangana assembly election manifesto 2023.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme is a scheme which is mentioned in the manifesto of Congress and the real objective of this scheme is to “Light up all the houses”. Through this scheme, Congress had promised that if they form a government then they will implement it so that all the households get the benefit of 200 units of free electricity.

Now this scheme has been officially implemented by Telangana Chief Minister “Revanth Reddy“. It says that no one will have to pay electricity bill if he gets less than 200 units of electricity per month, all such households who are small families will get benefit by reducing the electricity bill.

Eligibility Criteria of this Scheme

• The applicant should be a resident of Telangana.
• The Applicant should only consume less than 200 units of electricity per month.
• If the applicant’s electricity bill is outstanding, he/she will not be eligible for the scheme, which means all the outstanding bill should be clear of the Applicant.
• The benefit of this scheme offers only for domestic usage, not for those that are commercial purpose.
• If the applicant has multiple houses then the applicant will get the benefit of one house to get under 200 unit electricity free.

• One of the benefit of Gruha Jyothi scheme is that it will provide 200 units of free electricity.
• If the electricity usage of a household is less than 200 units then he will not have to pay the electricity bill. If your usage is more than 200 units then you will have to only pay for the additional units of the electricity bill.
• And the most important thing about this scheme is that it reduces the burden of electricity expenses for low income households.
• Due to this scheme, the Congress government has not only helped the household owners, but also those who live on rent, and those are living on rent houses they can show the documents proof of their owner to avail this scheme.
• Electricity is a major problem in villages, where this scheme will be of great benefit to small villages and towns.

Documents Required for this Scheme

These documents will be required to apply the scheme.

• Applicants Aadhaar Card
• Food Security Card
• Recent Electricity bill
• Proof of Residence
• Rental Document (if applicable)
• Photo copies of the Applicant

As per the recent update the applicants should kept these documents ready as there is a possibility of door to door survey by electricity department to collect the documents of the Applicants.

How to Apply for Gruha Jyothi Scheme (Offline)

• Download the Application form from here.
• Enter the applicant details along with food security card details.
• On page 3 you will find Gruha Jyothi scheme application details, fill out the details with consumer id of electricity bill
• Tick the 200 units of electricity bill consumed per month.
• At the last page enter your name and signature.
• Attach the Latest electricity bill along with the application form.
• Submit the application form to your nearest Gazetted officer of Mandal Panchayath.
